WHAT IS THE DIAMOND STEAM FAIR?
On Wednesday, March 28 between 6-8 pm Diamond will be hosting its third STEAM fair. Awards ceremony will go from 7:30-8pm. STEAM is an acronym for Science Technology Engineering Art Math. Diamond students are encouraged to explore any of these and display their work for the enjoyment of the Diamond community.
WHERE WILL THE DIAMOND STEAM FAIR BE HOSTED?
The Fair will be hosted at Diamond Middle School in the cafeteria, depending on the quantity and type of submissions. This is also the Parent Info night for the incoming 6th graders, which is from 7-9 in the auditorium
CAN I DO A SCIENCE EXPERIMENT FOR THE STEAM FAIR?
Of course, students may do a project keeping the format of those displayed in a science fair. All endeavors are welcome. We hope to see students create works of art, engineering and science. Poems, short stories, sculpture, paintings to science experiments, and new inventions may be displayed.
CAN I CREATE A DOG-POWERED MACHINE?
Students are welcome to exercise their creativity and scientific genius. We request that if live animal, pets, or even siblings are a part of the experiment or work of art, they are treated with respect and not harmed! For display purposes – please leave them at home. Pictures and videos will suffice, though siblings are welcome to be a part of the audience on that evening.
CAN I DO PERFORMANCE ART FOR THE STEAM FAIR?
In order to do justice to performance art ideally we should have a dedicated space. This may be difficult so we request that videos etc. of the performance art be taken and displayed. Please note we will not be able to provide display monitors. Students may bring electronics needed for the display from their home.
CAN I DO THE WORK AT SCHOOL EITHER DURING SCHOOL HOURS OR AFTER?
Students will do the work at home
CAN I WORK WITH A FRIEND?
Teams are highly encouraged. The creative process is so much richer and enjoyable with friends. Cross discipline collaboration is even better. Have a engineer work with an artist, a chemist working with a physicist, ...
WILL THERE BE PRIZES AWARDED AT THE FAIR?
Yes! This year, like last year, we will be giving out prizes. The prizes are undisclosed however at the moment :)
HOW BIG CAN I MAKE MY DISPLAY?
Your total display should fit on a table top approximately 4 ft x 2.5 ft. Of course any creations that do not fit on a table will be placed in appropriate settings. Please let us know if you need an outlet, or large space before hand so that we can adjust. IF YOU DO PLAN ON USING AN OUTLET, PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN EXTENSION CORD.
WHAT IS AND IS NOT ALLOWED?
Live animals, open flames, and anything not allowed by the school would not be allowed at the fair. If you have a concern about something that is part of your project, please email [email protected] as soon as you can so we can work out any details for it before the fair. Food is allowed at the fair (but no nuts), and do not distribute food to younger visitors without their parent or guardian's permission.
